The Domesday Book of 1086

I have recently come across this wonderful find on the internet. It's the entire DOMESDAY BOOK (written and compiled in 1086) listing the villages and towns if England 20 years after the Norman Conquest and the Battle of Hastings. There's some startling and fascinating information in there. I have never really studied it or looked at it that deeply. The village where I live apparently had very high taxation and was of medium population including (much to my surprise) four slaves. A name that appears throughout is that of William de Warenne, he was one of the wealthiest landholders in England with holdings in 12 counties.Click here for a delve into history:- THE DOMESDAY BOOK
